About 15,000 people participated in the survey , Roughly 96% of people polled by the Mirror US believe Donald Trump is the “dumbest president ever.” The survey, conducted last week, asked 15,000 people to assess President Trump’s decision-making as the crucial 2026 midterm elections approach. The results coincide with other reports this week, indicating that more than half of Americans believe Trump’s stewardship has ultimately hurt the economy.
“‘Dumb'” is such a polite word,” one commented.
“I think it’s pretty obvious to anyone with an IQ over 90. Even kids think he’s stupid,” another joked.
“Intellectually and emotionally stunted. He doesn’t even want to try,” a third said.
What is Donald Trump’s IQ?
President Trump has never revealed the exact score of his IQ test.
Trump frequently divides those in his inner circle into winners and losers by using IQ as a shorthand for intelligence. Politico reported that Trump regularly claims in private that those he favors have IQs comparable to a genius.

Additionally, the president is eager to accuse his political rivals of having low IQs, as demonstrated when he reiterated the critique of Joe Biden, one of his main Democratic opponents, made by North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un.
Trump’s Economic Impact and Approval Ratings
A majority of voters (55%) believe that Trump’s policies have harmed the economy, and the president’s approval rating among registered voters is at 41%, a second-term low. This represents an increase from 48% in March, prior to the war in Iran, which drove up gas and other prices and solidified the growing cost of living as the top concern for Americans.

In the fight for control of Congress, Democrats are ahead by 5 points, 50% to 45%. This is not quite as much as the 12-point advantage the party had prior to the 2018 election, when they rode an anti-Trump wave to the House majority in his first midterm as president. Even with that advantage, people still have a worse opinion of the Democratic Party than of Trump and the Republican Party.
That could give Republicans a major boost, especially as the battle for control of Congress is unfolding across traditionally Republican territory. To seize the Senate, Democrats would need to pull off a string of tough victories in states that Donald Trump won by double digits in 2024.

Political Geography and GOP’s Declining Climate
“We have a classic battle between these numbers and the political geography in which this campaign will be decided,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, whose firm conducted the survey alongside Democratic firm Hart Research Associates. “And the Republicans are still standing because of the geography in which this election will be won or lost.”
However, the survey indicates that the GOP’s political climate is getting worse. Long-standing double-digit advantages over the Democratic Party about who would be better at managing the economy and inflation have vanished. Over 60% of people believe the conflict in Iran has not been worthwhile. Trump’s major tax and spending bills from last year don’t seem to be inspiring voters.
Rather, Trump is a strong motivator, but more for Democrats than for Republicans. According to NBC News polling conducted prior to the midterm elections, more voters than ever before, including almost half of independents, believe that their vote is a sign of opposition to the president.
