She attended some events but mostly stayed close to her granddaughters, helping maintain a sense of normalcy.<\/p>\n<p>She once said she moved to Washington out of concern for her daughter\u2019s demanding life and her grandchildren\u2019s safety. The family, including Michelle and Barack Obama, her son Craig, and her grandchildren, said, \u201cShe was our rock,\u201d and remembered her sense of humor, warmth, and unconditional love.
