Marcy Kaptur Hit by Car in Toledo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Toledo police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after a collision Sunday sent longtime Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur and her campaign manager to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The crash occurred at approximately 10:48 a.m. at the intersection of North Detroit Avenue and Central Avenue in Toledo. Kaptur, 80, was a passenger in a black Ford Bronco driven by her 26-year-old campaign manager, Kegan Zimmermann, when a silver sedan traveling in the opposite direction struck the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Both occupants were transported to St. Vincent&#8217;s Medical Center. &#8220;Congresswoman Kaptur is active, alert, and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries,&#8221; her office said in a statement.<\/p>\n<h2>What Happened<\/h2>\n<p>According to Toledo Police Department officials, the silver sedan traveling southbound on Detroit Avenue &#8220;came into the path&#8221; of the northbound vehicle, causing the two-vehicle collision. The driver of the sedan fled the scene and was picked up by a second vehicle, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Both vehicles involved in the crash were impounded as evidence. Toledo Police Chief Michael Troendle said detectives have made &#8220;significant progress&#8221; and are following several strong leads in identifying the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>The fleeing driver faces charges for causing the accident and leaving the scene. Chief Troendle said, &#8220;I had a chance to speak with Representative Marcy Kaptur today, and we&#8217;re glad to hear she&#8217;s doing well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers from both parties offered support. Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona wrote, &#8220;I&#8217;m praying for my colleague @RepMarcyKaptur after her crash this morning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2>About Kaptur<\/h2>\n<p>Kaptur has represented Ohio&#8217;s 9th Congressional District since 1983 and is the longest-serving woman in U.S. House history. The House is currently in summer recess, so she was not expected in Washington.<\/p>\n<p>She faces a competitive re-election bid this fall against Republican former state legislator Derek Merrin. Her narrow victory in 2024 drew national attention to the race.<\/p>\n<p><em>This story has been updated.
