Trump Claims He Could Still Prosecute Clintons, Obama

Trump Clinton Obama investigation

President Trump said Thursday he could still criminally investigate former President Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Obama, claiming he has “a lot of information” on the trio.

Trump, in an interview with Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty, said he could have gone after the Clintons and Obama in the past, but opted not to.

Trump’s Claims About Investigating Political Opponents

“I could have done numbers on Hillary Clinton, I could have done numbers on Bill Clinton, I do like Bill Clinton,” the president continued. “I could have done numbers on Barack Hussein Obama, still could, I still could. I could do big numbers if I wanted to. I turned down going after Hillary Clinton.”

He did not provide further details on the claims.

Finnerty asked Trump what he meant by “big numbers,” and the president noted he could “go after them criminally” or “destroy their reputations.”

Trump Signals Possible Impeachment Threat

Pressed on whether he will pursue the former executives, Trump signaled he probably would not— but did mention the possibility he could be impeached a third time.

“I guess not, probably not, but I think if they impeach me, again,” he said, before changing the subject.

Administration’s Political Prosecutions Under Scrutiny

The president and his administration have been criticized for criminal investigations and prosecutions of Trump’s perceived political opponents.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) pursued charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James, who won a civil suit against Trump while he was out of the White House. Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted twice, once last year and again in 2026. Comey’s first indictment was dismissed after a judge ruled the prosecutor was unlawfully appointed.

The DOJ also pursued a case against six Democratic lawmakers who filmed a video instructing members of the military not to follow illegal orders, but a grand jury refused. The Trump administration has investigated others, including Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and Fed Governor Lisa Cook, who Trump attempted to fire before the Supreme Court blocked him from doing so.

The administration did successfully prosecute former Trump national security adviser John Bolton, who pleaded guilty to charges of illegally retaining sensitive documents in June.
